Valentine Bingo

  How To Play
  • Trace or draw a heart large enough to fill an 8-by-10-inch piece of paper.
  • Use this heart as a template to cut hearts out of 8-by-10-inch sheets of red or pink construction paper. Make sure you have one heart for each child.
  • Divide each heart into five horizontal and five vertical rows, creating a grid.
  • Open a bag of candy conversation hearts - the kind that have little sayings on them.
  • Make a list of the different sayings you find, such as, "Be Mine, You`re Sweet." You will need at least 25 sayings. If you can`t find that many, make up your own words or sayings that have to do with Valentine`s Day, such as heart, rose, valentine and so forth.
  • Fill in the grids with the sayings. Place them in random order and be sure each card is different.
  • Mark the center space with a big heart. This will be the free space.
  • Place slips of paper with the sayings in a hat or box decorated for Valentine`s Day.
  • Pass out the heart-shaped papers. Give each child a supply of candy hearts to use as markers on the board. Ask them not to eat them until the game is over.
  • Draw one slip of paper at a time from the hat or box. Read the saying out loud.
  • Tell the children to look for the saying on their paper. If they find it, they should place a candy heart over it. Make sure each child covers the free space.
  • Play until someone gets five hearts in a row either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. The first child to do so wins.
  • Repeat the game a few times or keep on playing the first game until each child has covered five squares in a row.
  • Let the children eat the candy after the game is over.
Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure that the children are able to read the sayings you select. Usually children in first grade and up will be able to play unassisted. Help younger players locate sayings on their papers.
